Our wonderful town crier, Brian Sylvester, is a very active member of the Newbury Carnival team.

Click on the play button below to hear him talking to Newbury Sound’s Stuart McGinley about this year’s event.

Brian Sylvester and Stuart McGinley

While you’re here, be sure to visit our newly updated Carnival Fete and Fair page for details of what’s planned for Northcroft Park this year.

So, with just over 8 weeks to go, things are certainly hotting up in the Newbury Carnival Control Centre.  For security reasons public access is, of course, strictly controlled but you can get a feel for what goes on in the bunker, deep under Greenham Common, here.

We’re grateful to Waitrose in Newbury for selecting the Carnival to be a beneficiary of their Customer Matters scheme once again.  In case you don’t know about the scheme, each customer is given a ‘token’ (a small green counter) at the checkout, to post into 1 of 3 containers.  Each container is allocated to a local, voluntary organisation.  Waitrose then makes a donation to each of the 3 organisations represented by the containers, according to the number of tokens collected.

Newbury Carnival will be one of the organisations throughout May.  So if you are shopping in Waitrose, be sure to collect your token at the checkout and use it to support Carnival 2011.  Many thanks to all.

Hear all about it!

Bryan speaking out!

Click here to listen to Carnival Chairman, Bryan Harper, giving a five minute talk on what makes him passionate about Newbury Carnival.  Bryan was talking at the excellent Speak Out event in Newbury’s Market Place yesterday, organised by Newbury Speakers Club and Newbury Town Centre Events Manager Caroline Paus.

Bryan was one of a number of speakers who talked for five minutes during the Speak Out competition and we’re delighted to report that his was one of the winning entries.  Many congratulations to Bryan and to everyone else involved in the event.

To find out more about the CCC (Carnival Command Centre) deep below Greenham Common, which Bryan mentions during his talk,  click here.

Also on our recording you can hear Brian Sylvester, who is Newbury’s wonderful Town Crier (and a long standing member of the Newbury Carnival Team), and Tony Henderson-Newport, President of Newbury Speakers Club.
