Do you twitter?

Posted by newburycarnival in Uncategorized - (Comments Off)

twitterIf so, start following Newbury Carnival to get all the latest news.  When new items are added to the home page of this website our Twitter account is automatically updated and we’ll also some direct tweets from time to time.

If none of the above made any sense at all go to www.twitter.com to find out more about Twitter, but briefly it’s a way of providing short updates about what you, or your organisation, are doing.  You can ‘follow’ anyone who has a Twitter account and their updates will appear on your very own Twitter page.  Many people update and read their twitter account using mobiles.  Here’s the ‘twitter feed’ of a well known and very enthusiastic user.  There are lots of others: here’s another quite famous user.   The BBC and lots of other big news organisations have their own Twitter feeds, so one for Newbury Carnival was an obvious next step.

Still confused?  Try watching this short video.

A huge thank you…

Members of the Carnival organising team at the Strictly Volunteering event

… to everyone who volunteered to help with this year’s carnival at the Volunteer Burea West Berkshire’s Strictly Volunteering event on Saturday.  The team at our stand also spoke to a number of organisation’s who are interested in organising floats.  Our total number of entries is already up to 7 at the time of writing – see our parade entries page for details.

The theme for this year’s carnival parade is ‘Once Upon A Time’.

It’s a phrase that calls to mind children’s stories, of course.   But according to this Wikipedia article, there are many varations on the theme.

We’re sure you’ll find plenty of inspiration. There are all the traditional children’s stories, of course, but there’s also much, much, more.  Anyone for Star Wars?

Come and meet the Carnival Team at the West Berkshire Volunteer Centre ‘Strictly Volunteering’ event on Saturday 17th January from 10.00 – 4.00pm. The event will be held at Newbury Corn Exchange and we would be pleased to see anyone who can spare even one day to help with Newbury Carnival 2009.

… about all the work that’s involved in organising a carnival?  No, we didn’t think you had.  Well, we’ve archived the build up to the 2007 Newbury Carnival here just to give you a glimpse of what goes on.  If you would like to help – perhaps by joining our crack team of  CMC’s (Carnival Mission Controllers) in their top secret bunker hundreds of feet below Greenham Common – we’d love to hear from you.  We also need lots of marshalls on the day.
